Visiting a local coffee shop “Nikkalatte” I noticed a book available for purchase “You Killed My Wife“. As an avid reader I thought I’d grab a copy (a rare thing for me since I normally do all my reading on my iPhone). The placard next to the book indicated it was a ‘local author’ so my interest was piqued. As I started to read I was instantly hooked…
“Mort, a retired Australian soldier, returns to Brisbane to investigate his wife’s death—which the coroner ruled accidental. Soon, he uncovers a web of espionage, police corruption, political dirty tricks, outlaw biker gangs, and cyber‑hacking, with only his old comrade Pig by his side.“
The book starts in Townsville, and as I read each paragraph I was transported to the airport that I’ve travelled through a number of times. As the protagonist moves back to Brisbane (enough of spoilers) I was again able to picture the streets, the coffee shops. This trend continued for me not just through the first book but the first three!
With a blend of high tech gadgets, some highly trained specialist skills, bureaucracy, edge of your seat plots and no-nonsense metting out of justice there is enough in each of the books to keep you turning page after page.
Author AJ Wilton was set to do a book signing at Nikkalatte, which incidentally features in the book, but I was unable to get there on the day, so instead I reached out and asked if a coffee and chat would be possible, and it was. Meeting Mr Wilton and being able to ask questions surrounding the characters, plots and what’s in the pipeline was a treat.
I also owe an apology to the Author, I was set to write this review quite a few months ago, then life got busy. The exciting news is that as I write this post Book 5: Mortice: Double Tap has been released.
I strongly recommend you head over to https://www.ajwilton.com and arrange copies of the series today!
